Science & Mocktails
The Science & Cocktails Foundation invites many international renowned scientists to give public lectures typically directed at older generations. Science & Mocktails aims at creating a similar environment in dedicated high school events with delicious cocktails. Students have the opportunity to ask informal questions and get advice and inspiration for their future careers.
Science & Mocktails
The first episode of Science & Mocktails was organised at Københavns Åben Gymnasium in Denmark with scientist Anna Lembke on the topic of addiction. This episode was possible given the generous funding given by the Lundbeck Foundation. Anna Lembke is a professor of psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine and chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic. She is also the author of the book "DOPAMINE NATION: A Neuroscience-Informed Approach to Compulsive Overconsumption in a Reward-Overloaded World".
Informal atmosphere
This is a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting... The increased numbers, variety, and potency are staggering. As such, we’ve all become vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption. Yet, it is possible to find contentment and connectedness by keeping dopamine in check. Professor Anna Lembke provided a practical, science-informed approach to addressing compulsive overconsumption of everything from food, to sex, to video games.
